Frederick Douglas ( February 1817- February 20, 1895)
-Was born into slavery, he eventually escaped and became a leader in the Abolitionist Movement and fought for equality for women.
-He became the US Minister to Haiti in 1889 and held the position until 1891
-He secretly taught himself how to read and write while he was a slave.
-Was the first African American to be nominated for Vice President in 1872.
